PANGLAO ISLE, BOHOL
THE PHILIPPINES SERIES PT6
After a few days chilling on the beach in Camiguin LINK I headed north west to the island of Bohol.
ALONA BEACH HAS A SIMILAR ATMOSPHERE TO THAT OF BORACAY
I chose to stay at Moon Fools Hostel (highly recommended) on Panglao Island. It’s just over the bridge from Bohol and very close to Alona Beach in Bohol, Philippines. The area offers the same energy and atmosphere as Boracay, but with its own charm.
Quick Travel Tip:

WHERE IS BOHOL?
Bohol is located in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. It is best known for the Chocolate Hills and the stunning beaches of Panglao, especially Alona Beach in Bohol, Philippines.
Alona Beach & Chocolate Hills
| Location | Distance from Cebu | Travel Time | Best Way to Travel |
| Bohol (Tagbilaran) | ~75 km | 2 hours by ferry | Fast ferry from Cebu |
| Alona Beach to Chocolate Hills | ~70 km | 1.5–2 hours by road | Bus, van, or private hire |
CHOCOLATE HILLS
Originally, I didn’t plan to visit the Chocolate Hills. This geological formation features over 1,500 cone-shaped hills spread across 50 km².
I’ll be honest: while it’s unique and like nothing I had seen before, it wasn’t the most impressive part of my trip. Looking back, I may have enjoyed a few extra days on another island more. Still, it was an adventure worth taking, especially for first-time visitors.
Travel Advice:

ALONA BEACH
Alona Beach in Bohol, Philippines, is absolutely stunning, but it can be quite touristy. I was surprised at its popularity, considering I hadn’t heard much about it before visiting. It’s one of the closest beaches to Cebu, making it a popular stopover for travelers taking domestic flights.
While enjoying a beach bar in the afternoon, I bumped into a couple I had met earlier in Camiguin. They were on their honeymoon and had only known each other for 18 months—proof that travel brings unique stories together.
What to Do at Alona Beach:
- Snorkelling and diving trips.
- Island-hopping tours.
- Sunset walks and beachfront dining.

And one thing is for sure: the locals here are simply incredible warm, welcoming, and always smiling.
