MACAU

THE ASIAN SERIES PT3

The world’s highest bungee jump. If I’m honest, bungee jumps have become fairly standard for me now, especially after doing two of the most famous ones in New Zealand at Kawarau Bridge and The Nevis. However, even though this is the world’s highest bungy in Macau, it’s a completely different kettle of fish and an experience like no other.

TO PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE, THE NEVIS JUMP WHICH IS KNOWN BY MOST AT THE HARDEST IS 100MS LESS!

After the Kawarau Bridge bungee jump (54m), I was told that if I had any guts whatsoever, I would have to do the Nevis bungee jump (143m). To be honest, I preferred the Kawarau jump because I ended up in the water. Moreover, you can’t prepare for the feeling of plunging into a river of ice-cold water! But it’s apples and oranges here, as the Macau Bungee Jump, which stands at a staggering 233m, is the world’s highest bungy and takes things to a whole new level!

STEPPING UP

When you step outside, you realize the height you are standing at, towering over every other building in the city. You don’t even need to look down to realize you’re about to attempt the world’s highest bungee jump. At this point, it’s all about the wait, with nothing else on your mind except the Macau bungee jump looming above you.

Eventually, it’s your turn to step, crawl, or get gently dragged over to the jumping point. I won’t exaggerate the difficulty, but all I wanted was to jump. The anticipation was insane I couldn’t wait to experience the world’s highest bungee firsthand!

THE WORLD’S HIGHEST BUNGEE

The guys here aren’t the type to put fear into you like the team at New Zealand’s Nevis bungee jump. Instead, they’re all smiles and genuinely friendly, making the whole experience feel much more relaxed. Honestly, they were the most cheerful bunch I’ve ever seen push someone off a building!

Due to the height, there are two ropes fixed to either side of the jump line, ensuring you go straight down and nowhere else.

THE JUMP

It’s an incredible feeling, and it’s bizarre that it all lasts for only 8 seconds. The Macau bungee jump, being the world’s highest bungee, adds an extra layer of thrill you won’t find anywhere else. However, one disappointing thing is that you get lowered to the bottom instead of being hoisted up again. For me, going back up is part of the fun and can be more nerve-racking than the bungee itself!

Returning to Hong Kong, I’ve moved hostels to somewhere closer to the Airport train station. Conveniently, it’s right in the middle of Soho. Phil and I couldn’t find where to go for a drink before, but here it is. Unfortunately, he’s away now though!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I think I’ve pretty much ticked all the boxes when it comes to bungy jumping, and it’s true what they say size doesn’t matter! If anyone wants to get a massive adrenaline rush and experience something entirely unique, I  highly recommend the Macau bungee jump, the world’s highest bungee.

Anyone who visits Hong Kong for anything more than 3 days must visit Macau, it’s bizarre. Macau is now the gambling capital of the world, beating Vegas 6 fold!! How may you ask, well as its not officially part of China they have special gambling laws and as it is in the middle of Asia it’s in a prime catchment area!
