THE OIL SERIES, DAY 1
SAUDIA ARABIA
Arriving into Saudi Arabia. Away first thing again today but this time slightly more organised having finished packing and arranged a taxi the night before – is this the start of something new? I have a stopover in Abu Dhabi for a few hours and then it’s onto my first visit, Saudi.
Just 6months ago it was only possible to get a visa if attending one of the big events. Before that it was almost impossible unless of course you were working there or a Muslim going to Mecca, so I’m keen to see what it offers.
WHERE IS SAUDI ARABIA?
TAXI
My friend Jenna who lived here for a few years sorted me out with a taxi. Every taxi driver seems to be from India or Pakistan and have a similar sad story. My driver gave up his home life and moved here 17 years ago to support his wife and daughter who have remained in India! It’s moments like this that remind you how lucky you are yet we (me included) continue to complain about to most menial things.
ALHAMRA PALACE
Checked into Alhamra Palace which was a good hotel but if you plan to come to Saudi be sure and stay in the Al Olaya area.
