DAY 4 & 5, KIWI EXPERIENCE
LAKE TAUPO
On our way to Lake Taupo we had a stop off at the geothermal reserve of Te Puia to check out NZ’s largest geyser. The guide was able to boil an egg in the pool with the help of a fishing rope and offered it around, of course I was only too happy to oblige.
There is also a display and demonstration of Māori wood carvings at Te Puia. I’ll be honest that it won’t be everyones cup of tea but i thought it was interesting the time and the work that goes into each carving.AT THE VERY LEAST IT WAS THE BEST EGG I’VE HAD IN NZ

LAKE TAUPO
Staying 2 nights in Lake Taupo (Taupo Urban Retreat Backpackers) as there is an 8hour trek (Tongariro Alpine Crossing) to do tomorrow which is weather dependant so I won’t be holding my breath as it hasn’t been great so far. Had a walk around town and managed to fit some golf in. There is a floating target island in the lake that you can go for and it had 3 holes on it.

Typically took me 3 clubs to figure my range and after that never missed. The fella must’ve thought I was a golfer – which couldn’t be further from the truth. The trek has been called off tomorrow because of the weather so its down to the Pub for the quiz tonight and drinking. Two good things about staying 2 nights; you get to meet people from the bus a day ahead/behind you and you can go all out on a night out without having to worry about a travelling hangover the next day. Got drunk
HOT SPRINGS
As the hike was called off today was a free day so we all took a walk to the hot springs. It’s basically a hot stream that runs into the river with a few pools between, so the closer to the river you are the cooler it is. But if you get up close to the stream it can get insanely hot! There was a mad Chinese lady who stood under the stream for about 5minutes. I was in 1 of the pools and could only have my legs in it was that hot. No drinking tonight just a few games of charades with the two Danes, an English and a German which should be fun considering the language barrier.
