DAY 3, FIJI

This morning I got back onto the boat which is an experience in itself. There is a top deck so its pretty good just to sit up there, enjoy the view and chill meaning you don’t miss out on any sun time.

THE KAVA IN FIJI IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN THE CAVA AT HOME

WHERE IS OCTOPUS RESORT?

DID YOU KNOW….?

  • Kava is a plant cultivated in Fiji
  • Its used for it’s sedative and euphoric properties.
  • The roots of the kava plant are crushed into a paste then filtered with water and drunk.

THE START OF FELIX’S DOWNFALL

Next up was Octopus Resort, another island I’ve heard great things about, one of the nicer ones apparently especially for its colourful coral and fish. John went straight to Mantaray Island so me and Carina will catch him tomorrow. Had a good dorm here, met an Israeli called Talia and a German called Felix who is travelling with someone but they decided to do different islands in Fiji, something you’ll hear about in a few days!

DID YOU KNOW….?

  • The traditional method for extracting kava is to for adolescent boys to chew it into a pulp, then spit it into a communal pot to be squeezed through coconut fibre
  • One of the traditional ways to enjoy kava is to drink it in the evening and then enjoy the beauty of the ocean or sunset — It is said this enhances Kava’s euphoric effects.
  • The roots of the kava plant are crushed into a paste then filtered with water and drunk.

KAVA

Each resort tries to offer something unique to the others and Octopus Resort offered a ritual whilst drinking Kava. They put on a whole performance for it and had the locals singing and shaking theirs hips. It was great unlike The Kava  which was as close to drinking liquid soil as I could imagine but I’ve certainly had worse!

The remaining program at the Octopus Resort consisted of snorkeling, chilling in a hammock and eating, not a bad day
