THE THAILAND SERIES, DAY 3

BANGKOK – SAMUT SONGKRAM – RATCHABURI – SAM
PHRAN – BANGKOK

Shotguns, markets and temples in Bangkok. We were on the go from first thing this morning, a point I usually make when trying to adjust and avoiding jetlag. And not to mention an extra 2 minutes in bed in Thailand is 2 minutes wasted!

THESE COCONUT PANCAKES WERE PURE DELIGHT!

After all the times I have travelled to Bangkok and all the weeks spent in Thailand I have never made the trip west, out of Bangkok and to the floating markets and temples. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand.

WHERE IS DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET?

MAEKLONG RAILWAY MARKET

Maeklong Railway Market is a small market right on the tracks of the local station. You’d wonder why it’s been setup there but I suppose seeing as the space is empty 95% of the time (when there are no trains) it almost makes sense.

For those 5 minutes, 8 times a day the umbrellas and produce is taken back to allow the train past and then things continue as normal. For sure a place to go and check out what’s on offer. Keep an eye out for the butcher woman cutting the live Catfish.

DAILY INFO….

  • ATTRACTIONS – Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, Bang Kung & Dragon Temple, Wat Arun

DAMNOEN SADUAK FLOATING MARKET

Next stop was the longest running floating market in Bangkok. We started at the docks at the very end of the canals and worked our way past the many many stalls setup to sell the same stuff to tourists; harem pants, tuktuk models and fridge magnets.

DAILY TRAVEL STATS….

THE REAL DAMNOEN SADUAK

Eventually we got to the real market and was surprisingly small. You’ll find most of the market on the one stretch of water but this is the place to buy your food and stop for water or an ATM etc.

So many things were getting my attention that I bought nothing first time round and had to tell the driver to go back around. Pad Thai, coconut ice cream and the amazing coconut pancakes were all top top choices! I wasn’t sure of the expectations but for sure I would recommend everyone to go if you are in Bangkok for a few days.

BANG KUNG & DRAGON TEMPLE

On the way back we visited probably two of the most unique temples in the world; Bang Kung, an ancient temple surrounded in branches and roots and Dragon Temple, a huge building in the middle of nowhere with a dragon wrapped around its outside. One of the most bizarre things I’ve seen.

WAT ARUN

Finally we arrived back into Bangkok and stopped for a walk around Wat Arun, Temple of Dawn. For every time I have been in Bangkok it has been under major restoration and I can see why. The detail is just incredible, I would highly recommend anyone to visit here!

CHANG

Oh Chang what would we do without you, the best beer in the world. I am no big drinker by any stretch but Chang is a beer I will always love the taste of and one that gets me rightly. Actually I was served my first beer by a waitress that came up and claimed to know me. I’m used to all these tactics by the locals here but when she turned around and said my name it left me feeling very paranoid!

FINAL THOUGHTS

What a top first day back in Thailand. Part of me wondered if I would enjoy it as much as I have before, how stupid of me to think otherwise. Thailand I love you!
