KOH TAO PUB CRAWL
Asa Gets A Lapdance
Glad to be back, as we didn’t get a chance to visit all the viewpoints. Mike and I checked into the central backpackers and met a fella from Manchester called Carlos, who I would end up travelling with across the west islands. Took a walk and chilled before more carnage later.
“Asa couldn’t keep her little hands of the ladyboys!!”
In the queue for the pub crawl (4 times I’ve done it), and some fella behind me asks where I’m from because he hears the Northern Irish accent, chatted away for a bit, but more to come on that.

The Lapdance
The pub crawl was some laugh, went to a pool party where you get a free shot if you jump in, everyone was loving it, then it was off to the ladyboy show again, where Asa decided to grope the ladyboy’s boobs, but they didn’t seem to mind. Because of it, she was dragged up to the stage and was given her own little strip show by the host. I think she regretted it at first, but was soon in her element; these Swedes are not so innocent! Then it was back to the bar fishbowl at Bans.
Sitting in the bar, I look across, and I swear I recognise this lad who comes over and says the same thing. My curiosity skyrockets when I realise he’s from Northern Ireland and works 10 minutes from me! Couldn’t figure it out for the life of me who the hell he is, but again, it’s a small world.
Small World
I was gone by this stage, but I remember bumping into the same fella from the queue for the pub crawl and having a few shots of the infamous sake. It wasn’t until I was into my 10th sake bomb that his name rang a bell, Rab Young. I had a mate message me and said, “long shot but keep an eye out for a fella called Rab Young.” I told mike and he said Rab was in our taxi home from the jungle party, wearing a Northern Ireland top, singing football songs with us, but I was too far gone by then to even think. Small world again. Got drunk, really bad. I think it’s because the beer out here isn’t regulated, that’s my excuse anyway.

Insider Tip: How to Survive the Koh Tao Pub Crawl Like a Pro
If you’re planning to join the Koh Tao pub crawl, pace yourself from the very first stop. The night builds quickly, and those early “free” shots add up faster than you think. Eat beforehand, hydrate between bars, and don’t feel pressured to match every round.
Bring small cash notes for convenience, wear lightweight clothes for the pool party, and keep your phone secured — things tend to get messy.
Most importantly, stay with your group. The pubcrawl Koh Tao is all about shared chaos and unforgettable moments, so enjoy it responsibly and make memories you’ll actually remember the next day.
Final Thoughts
Took a day’s recovery, and the boys spent most of it telling me the state I was in, don’t they know me well enough yet?! Since then, Carlos has never let me drink Chang without the supervision of an adult, but the tide was about to turn when he woke up with half his tooth in his pocket 😂, which got me thinking: this must be a great story. Turns out a girl gave him a hug, and her shoulder took it out! At least that took the spotlight off me crawling around the bar all night. Was a great day, done all the viewpoints, but too cloudy for anything – read about it here

Side note
If you are ever in Koh Tao, then you must try the famous sweet pancakes from this young man, Siad! They are dirt cheap and a quick & easy to eat after a long night out at the bars. Toppings include everything you could imagine, from strawberries to bananas and of course Nutella! Catch him right outside Bans Diving bar.

Next Up
Having to decide on my next few weeks, my plan is to go to the west coast islands and visit Koh Phi Phi and maybe Koh Lanta. Carlos is up for joining me, but he needs his tooth fixed, so we are going to Phuket to find a dentist and then go from there. Click here to read it and my first ping pong experience.
