ETHIOPIA

ETHIOPIA

Selam! Welcome to Ethiopia. For many, the name conjures images of the horrific 1980s famine, and the media that covered it, but that is a huge minimisation of this country. Ethiopia is home to both 3000m peaks and the lowest point on the continent. It holds the mouth of the Nile and was never under European control, unlike every other country in Africa. Why not visit ancient sites of Aksum and gaze upon some obelisks? Try to spy an Ethiopian wolf in the mountains, or take in one of the many ceremonies and festivals celebrated by the Ethiopean people. Aksum and Gonder are must-sees for history buffs, and the capital of Addis Ababa is also equipped with plenty of museums. The best might be the Ethnographic Museum, set in the sumptuous buildings and gardens of Haile Selasse’s former palace. If you want to see the reality of Africa, and get a taste of some of the most ancient civilisations there are, then VISIT ETHIOPIA!
