Voodoo meets a burgeoning tourist industry

Obavan, welcome to Benin. Once a coastal port hub of slave trade atrocities, the country is now an Afro-Brazillian fusion of palm-fringed shores, bright villages and verdent nature. A long, thin country that reaches inland from a short strip of coast, Benin’s attractions are concentrated mainly around the shore and the city of Porto Novo. Right at the other end of the country, however, by its border with Burkina Faso, you’ll find the Pendjari National park. If you’re looking for elephants and other African animals, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, there are markets, villages, museums and botanical gardens along the coast that could keep you occupied at entire trip. If you want to take the Voodoo trail into the hills, mountains and forests of West Africa, then there are far worst places to start it and you’d better VISIT BENIN!
