A long-suffering culture meets huge natural mountain beauty
Slav! Welcome to Kurdistan, the traditional home of the Kurdish people. Despite the Kurds being promised their own land many times in recent history, at the moment many see Kurdistan as part of Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey. It’s going through various amounts of unrest, so check before you travel. Fingers crossed though, because this is a part of the world like no other. Much of Kurdistan is mountainous grazing land, a quilt of browns and greens, with peaks pushing into a clear sky and blue-roofed towns, complete with the striking minarets of mosques reaching up to compete with the mountains. The language here is Kurdish, not Arabic, so don’t make that mistake! Local food is fantastic, fresh and somewhat akin to Persian cuisine. It’s always best served at home, so make some friends! It shouldn’t be hard. If you want to support and ancient culture, and see the truth of a pocket of the middle east not often discussed, then VISIT KURDISTAN!
