Rolling countryside meets the last outpost of the Soviet Union
Salut! Welcome to Moldova. The country, then Moldovia, used to encompass a huge area of Romania as well as its current land. Landlocked, Moldova shares borders with only Romania and Ukraine. As one would expect from this positioning, the political history of the country hasn’t been simple, and even now a breakaway state, Transnistria, runs along the edge of the Ukraine border. Moldova is one of Europe’s least visited countries, so if you aren’t into tourist trappings then you might love it. The capital is Chisinau, where there are several universities, so a young population, and a decent handful of museums and monuments to visit. Moldovans are proud of their heritage, and in many parts of the country traditional dress is regularly warn and Russians are distrusted. If you want to see a country still very much fighting for its identity, and admire a rich history and a few densely decorated churches and monasteries, then VISIT MOLDOVA!
