Alexander The Great meets a great night out
Zdravo! And welcome to Macedonia. This Balkan country may still be arguing over its name (Macedonia, North Macedonia, or The Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia?) but one thing’s for sure: it’s a hardcore traveller’s paradise. With Greek, Roman and Ottoman heritage on top of its recent Yugoslavian history, there are rich seams of culture to mine here. The city of Skopje has had so much done to it in recent years, its older areas have been almost rebuilt. It’s home to the biggest bazaar, or market, in the Balkans, and worth a visit for that. The old town of Ohrid, with its very Greek vibes, is another must see. But it’s in the outdoors that Macedonia really shines. If you want to visit lakes like keen blue eyes, and hike across vast mountain plains with very little idea of where you might be headed, but still have the option of a night out at the weekend, VISIT MACEDONIA!
