East meets West
Merhaba, and welcome to Turkey. Long considered the gateway to the East, Turkey is an incredibly varied country with an incredibly rich history. After being part of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, Turkey became independent in 1923. Istanbul is the obvious destination for travellers, and physically straddles Europe and Asia, with the sparkling blue Bosphorus marking the divide and its ferries bridging it. Istanbul is full of not-to-miss landmarks, like the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The rest of the country runs from mountainous beside its European borders, and a haven for hikers, to middle-eastern desert in the mainly-Kurdish areas near the Iranian and Syrian borders. If you deeply value long, slow breakfasts and sweet tea, and can’t get enough of art and history, VISIT TURKEY!
