THE BUDA & SOVIET SERIES PT1

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY

Another friend’s stag/bach party so not much of a site seeing trip but rather 10 delinquents on holiday together.

THERE WAS PROBABLY JUST 3 PEOPLE PEDALLING THE BIKE!

It was my friend Joe’s stag do who I met from my time at university in Scotland. As a group we don’t see each other as often as we would like so we make the most of it when we do. I’m glad to be back here at the first time was spent in the same Irish pub for 3 days. We had a laugh but it’s not my idea of fun!

WHERE IS BUDAPEST?

ACCOMMODATION

No matter where I go with this crowd there is always a problem. Joe messed up the boat party for Tams stag do but now it was time to turn the tables. We flew from Newcastle into Budapest and immediately noticed the accommodation didn’t have aircon. Not a huge problem if it wasn’t in the middle of Summer and peaking at 40 degrees! Each night would be dealing with the sweats and lying in a puddle of your own sweat, it was agonising but all Tam’s fault for booking it. 😆

THE FLIGHT

Three of the boys who missed their flight after going to the toilet had to bus it to Edinburgh and fly through Cologne

THE BATHS

After a night out we felt the best way to start the day was at the baths. This is Budapest’s most popular attraction, day & night. The heat here is serious but don’t expect to cool down in the water as it’s just as intense

BEER BIKE

As like every bunch of tourists did in 2017, we rented a beer bike for a few hours and took to the streets of Budapest, or so we thought. The day was spent by most trying to let on you were contributing to the cause but when in fact you couldn’t be less interested. 3 of the 10 pedals didn’t work which made life all the more difficult for the ones who were. All while going through the worst neighbourhood in the city!

BOOZE CRUISE

What do you do after drinking at the Budapest Baths in the morning and then playing a small part on the beer bike in the afternoon? Get on a booze cruise of course. Whether you size up to a booze cruise or a dinner boat, it’s something you have to do in Budapest. This stretch of the Danube is one of the highlights of the city.

After walking the best part of 1 hour to get to the cruise and watching Joe sleep on the floor it turned out to be a decent night. There is a DJ on both levels but the first few hours are best on the top deck enjoying the views and the other tourists.

CITY TOUR

Not one to miss out on getting some sight-seeing in, we spilt into two groups and rented some daft looking bikes. The other group decided to rent a few Segway’s as part of a guided tour which didn’t end too well for them.

Apparently, their guide went through a fountain but once the others caught up it started shooting water, malfunctioning the electrics in some of the scooters. We on the other hand kept to the roads and didn’t take us long to stop at a bar for some cheap yet foul tasting beer.

THE SPA-RTY

For anyone who likes a drink and a party then the Spa-rty needs to be at the top of your list. The relaxed and quiet Budapest Baths turn into a free for all party at night and after seeing what goes on I wouldn’t be too keen to jump in sober! Myself, Lew and Andy spent most of the night trying to find the others which proved almost impossible until about 30 minutes from the end.
