MIAMI
SOCIAL HOSTEL, MIAMI BEACH AND SINKING SHIP
Miami has an incredible reputation for it’s beaches, lifestyle and nightlife. Due to how it is perceived in the movies I always looking forward to visiting but unfortunately it never matched my expectations. If it wasn’t for my buddy John’s recommendation to stay at Jazz Hostel my time would have been a bit of a let down. Yes the beaches go as far as the eye can see but because of the PR machine that is America I had this false perception of what Miami was going to be and we haven’t even got started on the CBD – don’t bother!
WHERE IS MIAMI?

MIAMI’S SINKING SHIP
The hostel was one of the best in America and that’s saying something! A lot of the people had just finished a season at Camp America so this was generally seen as a last hurray for them! Blondie (Shreya) and Amy were part of the carnage that ensued into the common room every night but it was Shreya that instructed the drinking games.
One of many was called “sinking ship” which requires a large jug, a tall plastic cup and as many people with their own drink as possible. At the start the jug needs filled with booze so we pass it around until its about 75% full, then the fun begins. The jug is set in the middle of the group, there was at least 20-30 of us and everyone takes turns to pour their drink into the plastic cup which is floating in the jug. As the cup is filled it will slowly begin to lose buoyancy. You can add as much or as little as possible but you must sink it.

I’VE BEEN HAD
Whoever is responsible (poured the last drop) is then required to save the cup from hitting the bottom of the jug and then has to knock back the drink. Not bad but considering there is a mix of over 20 drinks ranging from vodka to malibu and countless different wines and beers it left for an interesting taste. Needless to say I found myself drinking not only the first but also the second cup! I don’t forget much when drinking but the only memory I have is waking up in the common area at 6am alone, a few blurry photos below and not being able to stand in the toilet. Sounds a lot like the West Coast to me!

FINAL THOUGHTS
All in all it was a good experience but it was the hostel that made it, but I could have been anywhere. If you do plan to go to Miami and wish for more than just a beach to chill out on then I would either lower your expectations or bring a strap load of cash, stay at a nice hotel and visit the best clubs and restaurants.
