NEW YORK, THE FINAL STOP
THE SOPRANOS, TIMES SQUARE & L HOSTEL!
I met up with a John again after a few weeks apart, the worse few weeks of his life apparently 🤷🏻♂️ but we were back at it for another few days before I ventured back home!
We checked into L Hostel which apparently stood for luxury. It was nice I’ll give it that but when the owner came to us and said you coming up to the balcony later for free beer and pizza we thought we hit the jackpot. Myself and John being the type we are headed up right on time and got busy on the food and drink. I think it was our second drink when the owner said that we’d had enough!! But by this stage John and I had enough of him and left them to it.
Fast forward a few years and we found out the hostel was raided by the police as it was found to be operating illegally! I suppose you could say what comes around but either way the owner secured an L, it just wasn’t the one he’d hoped for… News link
WHERE IS NEW YORK?
New York, the final stop
NEVER BREAK A HABIT OF A LIFETIME
There is plenty to do in New York but me and John not wanting to break a habit of a lifetime continued with the belief that socialising remained the most important part of visiting a new place. I would hate to add up the money I had now spent on alcohol but it had proven so far to be a winner, there wasn’t a pace I didn’t enjoy!
From drinks at Greenwich village to the Marque Club in Chelsea and Times Square to the streets of Harlem we got around more than we normally did. From there I even put the drink aside for long enough to go on a tour of The Sopranos where I’d bump into a friend from uni, small world!

STATEN ISLAND
I have to say I will never forgive John for forcing me to go to Staten Island (thats right John 😉). We had everything at our fingertips in New York, so why on earth did we think it was a good idea to go to Staten Island. If you are considering it, stay away, there isn’t much going on but I do hear the nightlife is crazy!

FINAL THOUGHTS
In respect of things to do, New York is a great city, the options are almost endless! However a lot of the people leave much to be desired for and it’s not a place I expected to meet a lot of friendly locals. Saying that I cant wait to return and actually tick a few things off the bucket list besides a drink. Click here for my Canada & U.S. reflection post.
NEXT UP
I headed back home via a trip to London where my dad and a few others were going to Lord’s. The first few hours were spent in the park trying not to be sick, no thanks to my cousin Stevie for the previous nights Sambucas. Then its onto 7 months in Australia. Click to see my photo series.
