Austin Texas has a habit of throwing me into unpredictable situations LINK and this story was no different.

As far as I was concerned it was another fun night doing a pub crawl on sixth street. The locals here in Austin always so friendly and keen to talk, well 99% of them anyway!
WHERE IS AUSTIN?

MOTEL SUPER 8
We were staying at a motel called Super 8, which we decided to do as a way of a change of scenery from the hostels! Private room, ensuite and the most bizarre location for a swimming pool – in the car park beside the main road. It’s a wonder how people can relax when using it.
Its places like this which remind me of horror movies but yet we came pretty close to living one.

Anyway, after a few drinks we were chatting to a group of locals who all seemed top drawer and up for hanging around so we decided sure if the bars close why not head back to ours and use the swimming pool. After all we might as well get the use out of it.
After what seemed like 5minutes we had 2 police officers screaming at us with their guns aimed to our chests.
“SHOW ME YOUR HANDS”
Mate I’m in the swimming pool, do you think I’m carrying my Supersoaker 2000? No that’s not what I said but I was shocked at what was going on. Surely they have the wrong person, maybe they were looking for people who looked like us, but 2 backpackers in a motel swimming pool, really?

They couldn’t be reacting like this because we are outside having a drink. We weren’t playing music but just having a few beers and a laugh.
Anyway, we know how American cops can be so out we came, and I would like to say no questions asked but I couldn’t for the life me think why they were here!
WHATS GOING ON, WHAT HAVE WE DONE?
YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED IN THE POOL!
NO PROBLEM JUST TELL US TO GET OUT, THERE IS NO NEED FOR THE GUNS
From here it was a waiting game but myself and John just looked at each other shaking our heads in absolute disbelief at what was going on!

F**K OFF
Eventually we made our apologies which I felt inclined to do and the cops went on their way. It was only then when I got talking to John that I became aware of what actually led to episode.
The motel guard came to John before I was even in the pool and asked him to leave and instead of obliging, John (who is an absolute gentleman btw) told him in no uncertain terms to fu*k off!
