Impenetrable rainforest meets French custom and cuisine
Bonjour! This is French Guiana. Sitting on the coast of South America, beneath Suriname, it’s a very hard to reach place. Towns like Totnes, and the capital, Paramibo, can be visited by boat but there is no strong infrastructure connecting the interior to tourism. Or to civilisation in general. Officially a part of France, this odd colonial-era outpost has its own space centre, but barely manages roads… It’s certainly a destination for the adventurous! You’ll find nature reserves, prison camp history, and colonial architecture being consumed by the jungle, but you’ll have to work for it! Cayenne is the place for foodies, with French culinary rigour met head on by South American spices. If you like a challenge, want to see spectacular leatherback turtles, or can afford to pay for a cruise along the coast, then this may be a dream destination so VISIT FRENCH GUIANA!
