Zdravstvuyte, and welcome to Transnistria. That’s Hello in Russian, by the way, one of three languages spoken in this disputed territory. The others are Moldovan and Ukranian. Tiraspol is Transnistria’s capital, and the country even has its own currency, the Pridnestrovian Ruble. Big open air markets are a pull in the city, selling fresh fruit and veg and some crafts. But this isn’t a tourist city, how could it be when its country doesn’t officially exist? Take home one or two of the composite polyester ‘coins’ used for small denominations if you need a souvenir! If you have a thirst for adventure, and maybe for Cognac too, then VISIT TRANSNISTRIA!
