THE DISPUTED SERIES, DAY 12
CYPRUS
To give you an idea on how spur of the moment this trip has been I have just booked a flight to Munich this morning so I have 5 hours to visit both of the beaches left in the list.
IS THIS PLACE SOME SORT OF SECRET?
It’s not how I normally do it but things haven’t gone quite to my itinerary so I’ve had to improvise.
WHERE IS LARA BEACH?
CORAL BAY
First was Coral Bay which is similar to what is found up on the north coast but equally as stunning and quiet. It would be interesting to see how busy these beaches are in the summer. I then took the trip to Lara Bay and Lara beach.
THE BEST BEACH IN CYPRUS
Lara bay is stunning and has a beautiful view point before the road turns into a dirt road. Special mention to Toxéftra Beach just 2mins further up the coast not in the same league as Lara Beach though!
GETTING THERE
Unfortunately, it’s a bit of a drive on a dirt road from Lara bay, around 20-25mins if you take it slow. I was fully insured so done it in 15. It’s not completely necessary to have a 4×4 unless it is wet in which case I would say you might get into difficulty. There are several rivers to cross but they are fairly shallow and don’t prove to be an issue. I seen a car turn back but then after seeing me fly over it he stopped and asked if its worth the risk, “as long as you are insured buddy!”
LARA BEACH
Making my way down to the car park I could see on another day I would have needed the 4×4 but having come this far I wasn’t willing to be beaten. I didn’t pass 1 car on my drive and for a place that is so popular in the summer for it’s beaches, hikes and wildlife (it’s a nature reserve) it was a complete surprise.
PARADISE
Arriving at the car park I was thrilled to see there was no other cars so I jumped out for a look and couldn’t believe my eyes. I was thinking, ‘is place was some sort of secret?!’ I stayed around for a few hours taking photos and just walking around in complete awe. In this day and age finding a beach of this standard all on your own is near impossible! It was just me, no one else the entire time I was there, no buildings could be seen from the beach, no other cars, no boats, just golden sand, blue water and the sun!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall a much better place than the first time I was here. It really takes you to venture around the island and see what’s on offer. It’s all too easy to arrive in Ayia Napa and become stuck, I’m guilty of that as much as anyone. I can imagine it to be an entirely different place and experience in the summer however.
NEXT UP
After a rush to get to the airport not helped by a road closure the little Nissan Note done it’s job. Although after gunning it for the best part of 2hrs I’m pretty certain it will never be the same again.
I’m now 2hours south of Munich near the Austrian border in Hohenschwangau ready for my trip to Schloss Neuschwanstein which is one of Europe’s most stunning castles and another bucketlist item I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Click to read.
