JAPAN

THE ASIAN SERIES PT18

I’ll be honest, my time in Japan was hectic, there was just so much to do I didn’t have the time to write my diary, something I regret but I still had my photos!

CHERRY BLOSSOMS AND MT FUJI WERE MEANT TO BE HIGHLIGHTS 😩

After a week in Hiroshima and Niseko skiing, we headed back to Tokyo where we would be based for the next 6 days. From here we would be taking a trip to Osaka, Tokyo and praying the Cherry Blossom happens in Kyoto.

WHERE IS OSAKA?

CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Our trip here was organised around the cherry blossom season and we tried to give ourselves every opportunity by visiting in March but it wasn’t going to happen. We knew from the previous few weeks there was little sign of seeing anything and the season was going to delay far beyond our stay here. Not to worry however as there was still plenty to see.

NINNA-JI TEMPLE

Ninna-ji Temple is much older and dates back to 886, the Heian Period. It was originally founded by Emperor Koko who ordered the construction but didn’t live to see it completed. The tradition of this building was that a son of the ruling Emperor would take over as head priest whenever a vacancy arose.

OSAKA TOUR

Osaka Castle Park is located pretty much bang in the centre of the city and is a stunning place just to go for a walk. It’s history spans back 100s of years but as with many of the historic sites here in Japan a lot were burnt and rebuilt a number of times

TOKYO

We stayed in Osaka for a few days and travelled to Tokyo via the bullet train, another nerdy box ticked! Tokyo is a huge city and the underground is extensive to say the least but like it’s trains, it all runs like clockwork!

MT FUJI

Out final activity in Japan was a trip to see Mt Fuji, and active volcano and the highest peak in Japan. Sometimes when I travel my luck can go either way but today wasn’t a good day! Rain is never ideal but it’s better than not being here however when low lying clouds come out to play it’s a different issue. We got the train and then the cable car but could barely see each other let alone the mountain. It was a gutter but you can’t have it your way all the time!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I already cannot wait to come back to Japan. We might have been there for 3 weeks but it only felt like a small taste of what was on offer. Another special place in Asia!
