THE THAILAND SERIES, DAY 13
PATTAYA
A McDonalds feast and the Sanctuary of Truth. I love dirty food as much as the next fatty (I’m a fatty at heart) but I try to keep the diet as clean as possible when at home and on the road.
GIVE ME A MCSPICY AT 2AM EVERY WEEKEND AND I’LL BE HAPPY
However there are some times worth enjoying and worth eating whatever takes your fancy and another thing I love about Thailand is the McSpicy, Mcdonalds answer to KFC’s Zinger meal…lord have mercy!
WHERE IS THE SANCTUARY OF TRUTH?
Sanctuary Of Truth
SANCTUARY OF TRUTH
But before I stuff my face I had a scooter and a few hours to kill so I headed to one of Pattaya’s most popular attractions, The Sanctuary of Truth. Designed by a Thai business man called Lek Viriyaphan, the museum is made entirely from wood and remains unfinished after work began back in 1981.
DAILY INFO….
- HOTEL – Acqua Hotel 7/10
- RESTOS – McDonalds!
- FOOD – The heap!
- ATTRACTIONS – The Sanctuary of Truth
- STEPS – 15,800
70 YEARS BUILD TIME
What surprised me most was that work never stopped and it continues to this day and will continue until 2050 when it is expected to finish. I wondered why on earth it could take so long until I arrived and was completely blown away by the detail, you will have seen nothing like it.

A LITTLE ABOUT PATTAYA
Pattaya is a bit of a strange one, the complete weird and wonderful. There are a lot of Indian, Japanese and English tourists, as well as a ton of expats.
However, like Thailand as a hole it has a bit of a rep for offering a particular service. People tend to come here for 2 reasons; a good piss up with their friends and a little taste of culture (or whatever’s left). Or to pursue a woman and receive the attention they might not receive at home.
However, each to their own. But I have to say the people here are great and everyone is very respectful to each other. I haven’t seen one case where the police have been involved. You could not say the same about home. I can see why so many men find their partner here, I have never seen so many older men so happy than on some of these streets.
SANCTUARY OF TRUTH FACTS:
- The building is built entirely out of wood, most notably Teak.
- Building began in 1981 and is expected to last until 1930.
- The project was the idea of Lek Viriyaphant, a Thai millionaire.
MCDONALDS FEAST
After a night on the bevs I would call into McDonalds and get a McSpicy, I used to live off them in the early a.m. It pains me why they don’t serve them at home. But again having an hour or so free for lunch I went to the local Maccy Ds and ordered all the weird shit from their menu. Check the video below for all the details.
SUMMED UP….
- HIGHLIGHT – The Sanctuary of truth is incredible
- LOWLIGHT – 2 minutes after I finished the McDonalds, pure regret
FINAL THOUGHTS
Another couple of drinks tonight to top off another day in paradise, I am getting more and more fond of Thailand. Who would have thought.
