EASTERN EUROPE

THE EASTERN EUROPE SERIES PT4

Setting off again after Istanbul and Chernobyl, the highlights of the trip so far! There continued to be no plan as such and just to take everyday as it came, which suited me as I was never sure what to expect. This meant I could wait until I arrived, check out the area and settle in all before deciding if I wanted to continue or not.

WHERE IS EASTERN EUROPE?

My Eastern European trip

VILNIUS, LITHUANIA

RIGA, LATVIA

TALLINN, ESTONIA

HIGHLIGHT

You could tell each region had it owns style as the encompassing cities all generally followed suit with each other. This was more obvious in the countries to the north, such as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Choosing a particular highlight is always difficult but I loved the architecture and quaint nature of the northern cities, especially the old towns which seem to be in every town in Eastern Europe.

THE BALKANS IS AS GOOD A COAST AS ANYWHERE ELSE IN EUROPE

My Eastern European trip

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

Eventually I had an end date when I got word my Dad was coming out to the Czech Republic to watch the Moto GP, and thought what a decent opportunity to see something new. Neither of us are specifically motorsport fans but our love for sport in generally meant it was always going to appeal to us! Unfortunately like a lot of the 2nd half of the trip, the weather wasn’t ideal but it wasn’t enough to put an dampener on the experience.

South of Sofia in the Rila Mountains is the largest Orthodox monastery in the country. Known to be one of the most important religious centres and is pictured on the country’s banknotes.
