THE NORDIC SERIES, DAY 2

GREENLAND

6am wake up calls while I’m on holiday are a thing I’ve just gotten used to, after all to save time it’s better not to travel during the day when you can explore.

TO GET AN IDEA OF THE SIZE OF THIS TOWN, THE LOCAL PUB AND RESTO IS LOCATED INSIDE THE AIRPORT

I’ve been to Greenland once before and remember looking out from the plane and being blown away by the view, like nothing I have ever seen before. How many flights do you know that take you over an Ice Sheet where you can see snow and ice as far as the eye can see, only 1 – Greenland.

WHERE IS GREENLAND?

WINDOW SEAT

So for this flight I made sure to book a window seat (away from the wings) and again it didn’t disappoint. After flying over the ocean the closer you got to the mainland the more icebergs you seen, followed by a sheet of ice as far as the horizon.

POLAR LODGE

After getting lost looking for the exit of the airport I checked into The Polar Lodge which is directly beside my hotel, so close that I could throw a stone at the plane that got me here, convenient!

There isn’t much to do unless you have a tour booked, all of which are arranged for Wednesday and hopefully the Northern Lights will come out to play in between. A quick check of the town this afternoon, really not much to see but the place is cold, properly cold and with lows of -12 layers are going to be key!
