The majesty of the himalayas meets the quiet focus of Buddhist monks
Kuzu zangpo la. Welcome to Bhutan! A great Himalayan kingdom, Bhutan is not a destination for the faint of heart. Trek almost untouched mountains, and you’ll come across breathtaking buddhist temples. In fact you might have to; two thirds of the country cannot be reached by road. Other outdoor pursuits are also an option, with mountain biking and whitewater sports particularly popular. Inside the Buddhust monastries, or gompas, that litter the country, whitewashed and shocking against the monochrome landscape, you are likely to be invited in to learn about the religion and view colourful wheels of life and murals of the buddha. Perhaps Bhutan’s secret is its foundation of gross domestic happiness, an alternative measure of success comparable to other countries’ gross domestic product. So, if you just want to escape and be happy, and perhaps a little lost, VISIT BHUTAN!
