The ancient world’s greatest treasures meet the world’s friendliest locals

Salaam Alaikum, welcome to Sudan. The current situation here is a little iffy, so check travel advice before making plans to visit a country that, as all the travel sites will tell you, has MORE PYRAMIDS THAN EGYPT. And fewer tourists, too. As with Egypt and other sandy desert countries, the dunes have preserved history here, so much so that it’s still being uncovered. To get a handle on its history, visit the National Museum in Khartoum, but be sure to see history in-situ too, particularly the river temple at Wawa, which you will have to visit by boat, wading through the fertile edges of the Nile before you come upon it sat there, waiting for you. If you want to meet local people rumoured to be the friendliest in the world, and wander bazaars sipping sweet tea in between sightings of the best historical monuments you’ll ever see, then you’d better VISIT SUDAN!
