Rivers and lakes meet soaring mountaintops

Bwakeye, welcome to Burundi, the home of drumming Les Tambouriners and their dancing fans. Sitting at the convergence of the great lakes region of Africa and its Eastern countries, landlocked Burundi has fantastic lakes and rivers and the bird and marine life to go with that. Lake Tanganyika laps at the capital of Bujumbura, with wonderful inland beaches enjoyed by the generally happy-go-lucky locals. Unfortunately, civil war from mid-century was followed up by violent 2015 revolution, with only a brief window for tourism to begin. Hopefully, peace will return soon and the Burundians can again welcome visitors. At that point, if you are looking for inland seaside vibes, infectious drumming, and a local people who have been through the ringer but come out smiling, then VISIT BURUNDI!
